There has never been a quicker, easier solution than using Dylon Machine Dye. Pop the dye with some salt into the washing machine, throw in the item you want to colour, switch your machine on and hey presto! It's like new again. It really is as easy as washing your clothes. The best thing is, the colours are permanent and won't affect subsequent washes. Let your imagination run wild. You could be the best-dressed kid on the block.
Dylon Machine Fabric Dye gives you hassle-free colour for your home and wardrobe at 40C. We've all noticed that recommended washing temperatures for clothes and soft furnishings are getting lower; now you can dye them with Machine Fabric Dye at a lower temperature too and with colourfast results. Even better, it's completely washing machine friendly and won't stain your next wash.
One pack will dye up to 600g (1lb) dry weight fabric. Dyeing larger amounts (up to 1200g) will give a lighter colour.
Suitable fabrics: cotton, linen, viscose and polyester/cotton mixes. Lighter shades on polyester mixes because pure synthetics do not pick up the dye.
SIMPLE TO USE INSTRUCTIONS: For use in automatic front loading washing machines only.
YOU WILL NEED: 500g / 1lb of salt (regardless of the number of packs used) and Rubber gloves.
HOW TO USE:
1. Weigh fabric to be dyed to check that you have sufficient dye. Wash thoroughly, even if new, to remove stains or dressings which may not be visible to the eye. Leave damp.
2. Wearing rubber gloves, empty full contents of pack(s) into dry drum (not soap dispenser).
3. Add 500g of salt, covering area where powder was added (only 500g of salt is required regardless of the number of packs of dye).
4. Put in damp, unfolded fabric.
5. Select and run a 40C cotton programe (do not use prewash, economy, quick wash or half load cycles)
6. When complete cycle has finished, add your usual washing detergent and run a 40C cotton programe.
7. When complete cycle has finished, remove your item from the machine, add your usual washing detergent and run another 40C programe with the machine empty to ensure that the machine is clean. Keep dyed fabric away from direct heat and sunlight. Wash separately for the first couple of washes to remove any excess dye. We would always advise that you weigh the item that you want to dye to determine how many packs of dye you'll need. The table below gives you a rough idea of the weight of some regular items.

MIXING COLOURS: Fabric dyes will blend with the original colour of your fabric so you'll need to consider colour mixing rules.
- Red + Blue = Purple
- Blue + Yellow = Green
- Red + Yellow = Orange
Alternatively, you can use DYLON Pre-Dye to return a fabric to a neutral shade before dyeing to obtain the colour close to that shown on the pack.
